I have been blessed to have found an outlet for the current of life, in my friendships. These women have adopted me into their hearts and named me their sister. They say the word so effortlessly and fill it with a grace that smooths out my broken edges and difficult ways. They have been the very sponges to polish my jarring weaknesses. They have been God’s hands to uphold me in the midst of trauma, loss, heartbreak, and pain.
My relationship with food has always been a focus. I remember going on my first diet at the tender age of 10 years old and the person who influenced me the most to do this was in my home. She was someone I looked up to and highly esteemed. I also remember being told I… Continue reading My Health & Fitness Journey (Thus Far)
I played with a friend last summer and every time I beat him. Every time. It may seem odd but I realized then that it wasn’t fun winning all the time. I realized it was because I wasn’t being challenged. Not everyone enjoys a challenge but I definitely do.
I admit I can be an impatient person. Even after all these years and all the tests God has used to develop patience w/in me, it is not my preference to wait. But in the world of getting to know new people and developing relationships, I have come to value a person that takes their… Continue reading Building Slowly
I remember last year I was invited to an open mic night by a friend. When I arrived I was asked if I was performing. I’m sure I looked like a poet, with my retro hair and high waist pants (I love vintage style) but I let the woman down easy. “Nope,” I said with… Continue reading A Company of Poets
It’s been a month since we started hanging. I knew I was attracted but had no idea God could use that attraction. I had no idea you would be a safe haven. A place of restoration. There are so many things I marvel at: the treatment of respect, the understanding of my value, the seeing… Continue reading The Gift
Last night I had a good conversation with a dear friend. We talked about one of our most frequented topics: singleness. We reminisced about the times spent walking out this path we never thought we’d face and how much we’ve grown since those early days. Where had the time gone? We wondered. I remembered an… Continue reading Soulmates & Singleness
Last night I had my second speaking engagement and it went so well! The whole process of me receiving this opportunity was so unexpected that I can’t help but see God’s hand in it. While I was unemployed last year I worked filing individual tax returns during the tax season. One day a client came… Continue reading Jesus Started With Twelve
“So are you seeing anyone?”, she asks as we sit across from one another in her marvolously decorated dining room and finish up supper. When I walked in I was instantly impressed and a little taken aback by the amazing interior design work that graced each space. She then let on that she herself was… Continue reading Being Asked the Question
Some of my friends have kids who are starting college this fall. That in and of itself is crazy to me. How did I get old enough to have friends with adult children??? One friend’s kid posted a pic of her dorm room on social media and it took me back. Even as I reminisced… Continue reading The Fourth Generation
