Let It Snow!

Today it snowed.  I can’t remember the last time it waited this long to snow in Cleveland.  Last winter was definitely a mild one and I don’t think anyone expected to have another mild one back to back, but hey, if God wants to prove us wrong, let Him!  Now, normally I dread seeing the white stuff.  To me, it just means a longer work commute (45 min. or so), accidents, and tense driving.  Two years ago I had to dig my car out of the street in front of my apt. because the city had to plow the street.  My hair was soaking wet as I had just taken a shower and the policeman didn’t give 2 cents that I could have caught pneumonia.  Thank God my apt. management kept a shovel in the garage cuz I didn’t have the mind to keep one around myself (mental note, buy a shovel today at Walmart after work Nicole…).  Took me about an hour to dig myself out and another 30 minutes to find a new parking spot.  Who knew shoveling was a workout?!  Well, I called myself learning my lesson and paid the $50/mth for my apt’s garage last year, and of course it BARELY snowed. Go figure.  So, I’ve had a lot of bad experiences with snow and ice and spinning out of control on the road.  Watching poor souls with their cars flipped on their side, stuck in a ditch off the highway and such.  But this morning, when I looked outside of my window, I smiled.  I smiled because it was beautiful and I just love my street.  It’s so quiet, (even though it’s surrounded by various criminal activity). The street itself is the most quiet street I’ve ever lived on (maybe they’re just quiet criminals).  And the snow kind of blanketed the street, insulating it. Keeping it safe.  I had been waiting for this moment.  The color in our house is this warm green that just makes you exhale unknowingly.  The house is cozy, and peaceful and I knew the snow would add to the comfy atmosphere.  I was right.  So this morning, as I looked out my window and smiled, I thanked God for the new season.  Even if it’s cold and hard to drive and it seems to drag on, winter has its’ perks. Hopefully I take advantage of them this year.  Snow ball fights, hot chocolate, and good company is what I’m looking forward to in this new season.  I’ve already broken out my boots and winter coat today 🙂  So, seeing the beauty in the snow was the perfect start to my day.  I downloaded some new Colbie tracks (one of my favorite songrwriters of all time), donned a cute scarf, leggings and boots and moseyed on out the door with a slight pep in my step.  Of course, I lost my pep when descending the outside stairs, as I quickly remembered they could be dangerously icy.  But I resumed my upbeat stride once hitting the pavement again.  I brushed off my vehicle while singing a little ditty in my heart, extremely grateful I keep the snow brush in the trunk so I didn’t have to worry about looking for it.  I was in such a good mood I even dusted off my roomie’s ride as well.  I drove the 30 min. commute to my job, thanking God that the snow wasn’t sticking on the highway and the roads were safe (I’m sure my mom was worrying about my safety right around this time, as she is prone to do in this weather).  And enjoyed Colbie’s beautiful vocals and heartfelt lyrics the whole way.  Now, leaving work today may prove a little more adventurous, and my after work activities may get cancelled *sad face*.  But if that happens, I’ll just sit in my papa son chair, read a good book (still tackling “Bonhoeffer”) and look out the window.  At the snow.  🙂
