God is With Me

I know that God is with me.  There is a girl I run into sometimes at work.  She works for PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and they are my job’s outside auditing firm.  One of the “big 4” accounting firms.  The girl was in my Auditing class in grad school.  She was a 3-2 student, meaning she received her MBA in 5 years.  No job experience, young, wet behind the ears but starting off with a salary I don’t even make after 5 years in the working world and 2 degrees.  She dresses nice, says her coworkers are all young so they have fun together and she has 3 different “clients”, my job being one of them.

I’m not jealous, God is with me.

I mean that.  Because I feel His presence in this season and I know He is intentionally orchestrating the events of my life to glorify Himself and humble me. Because I know He receives the most glory when I am the most humble.  When I am decreased He is increased, just as with John the Baptist.

Dear God, please do not seclude me on a deserted island called Patmos with no outside communication for Your Glory.  Amen. 

So, the fact that this girl is a constant reminder to me of what the world says I should be doing and where I should be at this point in my life is not missed.  I acknowledge it.  I just won’t fall for it.  And I appreciate God’s grace not to fall for it.  To see it for what it is and know that His ways are so much higher than ours.  His plans are so much more extravagant.

For now, I’ll just appreciate what I have and know that I have enough in this season, for what I’m called to do, today.  I can also take pleasure in that there is nothing in me that wants to sit in a windowless room, hunched over a computer crunching numbers for 8 hours.

If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.
