5 Reasons I love Spring!

Image

Reason #1

The weather!- Living in Cleveland, Ohio has it’s benefits but the weather is not one of them.  The winters are fierce and only the strong survive.  Not even kidding people…

Reason #2

No more layers!- Now I actually LOVE layers when getting dressed so let me specify.  I love that cute scarf that hangs about your neck just so, or the blazer over the vest that makes you appear just a little bit fashion forward, or of course the colored tights underneath the skirt/dress that makes your outfit pop just a little bit more.  The type of layers I don’t like are the heavy, long, down-coats, the long-john underwear (come on you know you still wear them!) and the hats, gloves, and winter scarves that are covering up your cute, adorable face just so you can make it from the car to the store a few feet away without freezing to death.

Reason#3

Car naps!- So anyone who knows me knows I am an AVID nap taker!  Put me in a group of 3-5 year-olds and I will out nap them hands down!  But unfortunately when it’s cold outside I’m unable to get my lunch nap in, as I hate wasting gas running my car just to get some heat pumping out the vents.  Also I can’t very well sleep at my desk in my work cube (although I have tried once or twice…don’t judge).  Now that the weather is warm again I can lay my car seat back, roll down all the windows, and get a good 30-60 minutes in :-).

Reason #4

The Sun!-  Sunshine just has a way of brightening up my outlook on life.  My mood is lifted and I am inspired to smile.  I also LOOOOVE the way the sun feels on my skin.  My friend jokes with me and calls me a turtle b/c one of my favorite past times is to take a nap out under the sun :-).  Even this morning the sunshine flooded my bedroom and I felt as if I had awoken in the Garden of Eden itself.

Reason #5

I think the only way to capture this last reason is to use one of my favorite scriptures.

Songs of Solomon 2:11-12

For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone.  The flowers appear on the earth, the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.

Spring to me means walking outside in the warm air and talking to Jesus about anything and everything.  It means celebrating my birthday, not spending 20 minutes letting my car warm up and defrost before heading to my next destination and shedding off the heaviness of the winter that tends to plague me every year.

Life is just EASIER in the spring.

But I know if there were no winter I wouldn’t appreciate the spring the way that I do.  I would take it for granted and then get bored with it.  I believe God created all of the seasons to reveal the different aspects of Himself.  He is both Winter and Spring, Summer and Fall.  And the spiritual seasons of life are so similar to the natural seasons.  There are many things that die in the winter and are birthed again in the spring.  If there were no spiritual winter those things that need to die in us would not and our character would be left un-pruned.  Thankfully God knows this and even if the winter is harder, He understands how necessary it is to bring those things to death in us that are not like Him.

So for the next 6 months or so I’ll be venturing the outdoors as frequently as possible (I’m outside now typing under the sunshine as we speak) more than likely jogging the neighborhood or sitting out on our patio enjoying a good book.

How about you?  What are your favorite activities in the spring?  What’s your favorite season?

  1. I love the spring too… My birthday is in the spring, as are my husband’s and both of my children’s birthdays. There’s just something about the spring that blesses me… the warmth… the grass turns green once again… daffodils… tulips… hyacinths… yes, I LOVE spring. Thank You Lord for the springtime!

  2. I loved car naps as a child!! And I still do hehe
In the spring I enjoy being outside, period. One of my favorite things to do is watch nature “wake up”. So Beautiful! I’m not sure which season is my favorite but I can tell you which season is my least favorite: winter, sometimes.
Praise God, the creator of the seasons!

  3. Yes i’m such a kid, falling asleep in the car is the BEST!!! I agree on the winter kick, i could have easily said 5 reasons why i hate winter but wanted to give the post a more positive spin 🙂
