Would Jesus Eat Doritos?

Before I started the vegan cleanse and decided to dive into the being whole and healthy thing, my roommate and I had an interesting convo.  “Do you think Jesus would eat Doritos?” I asked, pretty much out of nowhere.  “NO!” she responded shocked and appalled, “Jesus would NEVER eat Doritos!  They are processed and add no nutritional value!”.  Now I know what you’re thinking…these girls have no lives.  LOL.  But, it seemed a worthy enough topic for us to spend energy dissecting at the time.  So much so, that since we could not come to an agreement among ourselves, I sought out a more knowledgeable source…our Pastor/Health Coach, Rhonda Sharpley.

I presented her with our discussion, gave her our individual arguments, and waited eagerly for the verdict.  I was so sure Jesus would enjoy Doritos every once in a while, I mean moderation and all that jazz but my roommate was so convinced that nothing processed would touch the Son of Man’s taste buds.  Well, if Health Coach Rhonda is correct, we were both right.  She believes that Jesus would eat Doritos if He were at a social gathering and they were presented to Him (otherwise, they would not be his day to day selection).  He would basically do so to be gracious to His host and to not seem rude and offend others.  Well, I can get with that.  I mean, there is a passage of scripture where Paul kind of advises to not eat or drink anything that will cause offense to your brethren, even if it does not offend you.  So, why not then eat and drink to avoid offense?

Interestingly enough, this morning I recapped this random topic of discussion with my BFF from Florida who is visiting in town.  I was also discussing how much discipline I have with eating now that I’ve completed the vegan cleanse and gained key nutritional knowledge through Plan BE’s classes.  Since I’m doing so well with practicing self control, when we had our work lunch today, I chose foods that are in line with my current diet (not diet as in quick fix, drop 20 lbs, but diet as in healthy eating lifestyle change).  But I also incorporated some foods which were not Plan BE approved just to be gracious to the host.  I was so focused on my calculated, well thought out food decisions that I didn’t even notice the bag of Doritos on the table with the spread (probably b/c I dodged the chips and cookies altogether).  I didn’t notice them that is, until they ended up sitting on my desk after lunch.  Someone had put them there b/c previously I was craving Doritos (pre-Plan Be classes) and would frequent their stash (also pre-Plan Be classes), so they thought they were doing me a favor by giving me the leftovers.  Go figure.  Personally, I think Jesus was being funny.

So, what are your thoughts?  Would Jesus eat Doritos?  A blog I visit thinks he likes pizza but does that mean He would eat Doritos?

Oh, and just in case you’re wondering…I did not eat the Doritos, but gave them away :-).

‘Til next time…

  1. I’m cracking up as I’m reading your post! I love Jesus’ sense of humor! I feel the same way as your Pastor. I believe Jesus would try some Dorito’s at a social gathering however I’m sure back in biblical times Dorito’s would have been a lot heathier! 🙂
