Online Dating, (The Verdict is In) & A Marriage Proposal

So, I cancelled my membership today for the online dating site I joined last month.  It’s been almost 30 days and nothing.  No emails, no instant messages, nothing.  Now, I did get one “smile” from a guy…that’s the site’s ways of someone kinda testing the waters and seeing if you’re interested.  But I will just say in the nicest way possible… he wasn’t my type.  He was someone’s hubby, but not mine.  And I reached out a couple of times myself…and told myself that they didn’t respond not b/c I’m butt ugly, but b/c they didn’t have the full membership benefits to respond…When I cancelled the membership I was asked why I was cancelling, and was presented with a list of reasonable responses.  My eyes lit up when I saw “online dating just isn’t for me”.  The experience may have been more fruitful had I put a little bit more effort into it, but I put forth about as much effort as I could muster up.

So, I’m back to square one, with $30 less in my pocket.  But I’m hardly disappointed, as my expectations were pretty low going in.  Plus, I’m too busy being super hype for one of my close friends who got engaged on Christmas day (yesterday).  Even though we kind of knew it was coming, it blesses my heart just the same.  They’ve been dating for a year now and met through a friend of a friend.  She was so not interested in a relationship with him that she was actually trying to hook him up with her other friends.  Not that he was a bad guy, he just wasn’t her type.  Or what she thought of as her type.  Eventually he swept her off her feet and now they are planning on getting hitched.  I have literally been going back and forth with her via text and facebook all day b/c we are so excited about the wedding (which will probably be towards the end of next year).  I hardly doubt her fiancé has been texting his boys all day, but I guess that’s one of the great things about women.  We are the perfect species to giggle and converse about the same romantic topic over and over (and over) again.  We are the only ones who will watch Pride & Prejudice for the 100th time and swoon as Mr. Darcy allows his cold exterior façade to melt under Elizabeth Bennett’s powerfully alluring, femininity.  Yes folks romance is not dead!  Maybe it can be found online, maybe in the grocery store, who knows…but one thing I’m sure of is that its certainly not dead.

I did come across a rather interesting blog from someone who seems to be having more good fortune than myself with the online dating scene.  Check out datemedaily for great writing & creative online dating anecdotes.

For now, I’m going to continue focusing on today and not worrying about tomorrow.  That is the word I keep hearing lately, today has enough troubles of its own, do not worry about tomorrow, Matthew 6:34.

Oh, and just to give an update on the weather, it is coming down.  I may be cancelling my evening plans once again…I will probably end up in doors, with Pride & Prejudice to keep me company.

  2. Nicole dear, u av written this post a long time now but since am a newcomer at ur blog, am checking ur articles one after d other. And am reading this particular post of urs now though u’ve written it long time ago. I love ur sincerity. And I totally believe online dating is not for a Christian cos d pple there are not genuine born again committed Christians. Bcos they are not, it would not be d best for a Christian to get to start dating a guy via online dating. As Christians, we are a different breed and we can have anything we want in life. All we need to do is call what we want forth. We have d power within us to call forth a genuinely born again Christian man to be our husband, d kind dat loves d Lord and bcos he loves d Lord, he wl also love us d way Christ loved d church unreservedly. Nicole, we are Christians, hence we av d power, power to change any negative situation to positive. God created us to be social beings and God wants us to be settled in families in marriage as ladies. The bible says God setteth d solitary in families. Meaning it is God’s intention dat humans beings should get married and have families and not live in isolation. Therefore we can lay hold on scriptures such as this to call forth God’s will of life partner out for our lives. Sometimes, we may need to give a sacrificial offering towards this. Sometimes, we may need to ask God what specific step we need to take to meet d man who will be a blessing to our lives as our husbands. Whatever d step God is telling us to take in this area, I am persuaded beyond all doubt dat we av d power as Christians to change all negative life’s circumstances to positive and to live d best of d best life on earth in all areas of our lives for “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” (Romans 8:37) and “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue” (2 Pet. 1:3)

  3. And I also read d novel Pride and Prejudice repeatedly cos I didn’t watch, its d novel dat I read. Love is a beautiful thing and we wl all av d desires of our hrts in marriage IJN.
