True Love

But soft, what light through yonder window breaks?
It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.
Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon,
Who is already sick and pale with grief
That thou, her maid, art far more fair than she. . . .
The brightness of her cheek would shame those stars
As daylight doth a lamp; her eye in heaven
Would through the airy region stream so bright
That birds would sing and think it were not night.

This passage makes my heart soar. The beautiful poetic words of Shakespeare rival that of Solomon’s Songs…

You have ravished my heart,
My sister, my spouse;
You have ravished my heart
With one look of your eyes,
With one link of your necklace.
How fair is your love,
My sister, my spouse!
How much better than wine is your love,
And the scent of your perfumes
Than all spices!
Your lips, O my spouse,
Drip as the honeycomb;
Honey and milk are under your tongue;
And the fragrance of your garments
Is like the fragrance of Lebanon.

When we know that love like this exists, how can we possibly fall for the cheap, perishable, stuff? Yet we do. The battle with lust and fleshly gratification is one I’ve known since I was a child. It is only now that I am starting to see my own worth and value. To understand that the passages above are not just describing the love between a man and a woman, but in fact, is the love my Creator has for me. I have ravished His heart with just one look of my eye, and He has ravished mine. The daily experience We share is a love story painted on the world’s canvas in hues of reds and pinks, saturated with scents of myrrh and oil. Every now and then Lust tempts me and beckons me to leave my Beloved. Lust dresses up in the finest attire, wearing the most seductive smile and looks right at me somewhat challengingly. “Will you come away with me Nicole? Will you come into my car, my house, my bed? Will you indulge in your desire for me and forget you are betrothed to another?” My Faithful Husband allows the temptation, He allows Lust to throw game, because He knows that I am His. Even if I fall, He picks me back up. And it’s all being woven into Our love story for the world to read. Growth and faithfulness is not created overnight. Sometimes, it is the little acts of obedience that we make day to day that strengthens our loyalty to Christ.

  1. His love for us is so amazing and there is truly none like it. Needed to hear that he will always come after me.
